Iraq warns Turkey against 'disastrous' incursion. It was all so predictable back then in late 2002, wasn't it? But we were dismissed as a bunch of pussy liberals who were afraid to kick some Arab ass. Everything was going to be excellent: Saddam would be gone, Iraqi oil would pay for the reconstruction, our troops would be showered with sweets and flowers.... I look back then and wonder how so many people believed the official bullshit spin. I had a tv. I didn't fall in line. And I am not a historian. I am not an expert on the middle east. I can do research. I read. It's not that hard.
EXCLUSIVE: "I Had Sex with Larry Craig!" No, not me, rather Princess Sparkle Pony, writing at Wonkette, has a friend who related a sordid tale of his sordid sex romp with Larry Craig in 1987. Click the link if you want the details. And a warning: the description of their encounter leaves nothing to the imagination, so if you have delicate sensibilities, you may want to pass. The only surprise? Although Larry blew him, he seemed to prefer to be a top. Go figure.
family and friends in south Jersey. You see, the period from mid-September through October is jam packed with birthdays. This weekend I will be wishing my sister-in-law a slightly belated birthday as well as one of my little cousins. I'm sure this is a common phenomenon, but over 10 birthdays in 5 or 6 weeks is a bit overwhelming. Long and short, I am off to celebrate the end of our busy birthday season. I hope that you all have a fabulous weekend.
David H. Brooks, 53, the former CEO of DHB Industries Inc., and Sandra Hatfield, 54, the former chief operating officer, were charged in a superseding indictment with manipulating DHB's financial records to increase earnings and profit margins, thereby inflating the price of DHB's stock.
Of course, saying the right thing and doing the right thing isn't the same thing, and Steny, the democratic master of K Street, sure does like those pretty buckets of cash the lobbyists carry with them. I'm guessing Steny's speech was his way of acknowledging that ever once in a while the democratic "leadership" has to throw a bone to the base, even if it is at the expense of some big corporations. In the long run, Steny and the other democratic "leaders" will be just fine. After all, the telecoms might feel slighted today, but I bet big pharma still loves Steny. It's all good.
proves he has balls of titanium: Kucinich Will Force Impeachment Vote Before Thanksgiving. If we had a real media, people would know more about Kucinich's positions and less about the cost of John Edward's haircuts. Yes, Dennis Kucinich is not your average politician, but that is part of makes him so appealing. Go to his campaign website and see if there is anything there that you disagree with. As for me, I didn't see any issues in which I disagreed with Kucinich's position.
The way I see it, there are three ways to get this provision stripped from the final bill:
1.) The first step would be to make sure the idea doesn't make it out of the Senate Judiciary Committee -- where it will be considered shortly.
If we can get it stripped there, it will have to be offered as an amendment to the overall bill where it will be a lot easier to get 41 votes against retroactive immunity than 41 to sustain my filibuster if necessary.
Take a moment and call up members of the committee, let me know what they said, and join others in tracking our progress in stopping the provision right there.
The other two ways:
2.) If retroactive immunity does make it out of committee, Senate leadership can honor the hold I've placed on any legislation that includes retroactive immunity.
3.) If leadership does not honor my hold, I remain committed to filibustering, and working to get the 41 votes necessary to maintain it.
This has the potential to be a long fight -- so let's build a solid foundation for our effort today by asking members of the Judiciary Committee to vote against any FISA bill that includes retroactive amnesty.
I'd like to see a little more spine, frankly, on these issues. People tell us they want to lead, but a little leadership right now would certainly be welcomed on these questions.
I don't want to, but I'm not afraid to do this alone.
No equivocation there. Dodd lays out the problem and tells us what he is going to do about it. No qualifiers, no nuanced language, no wiggle room--just the facts. Let's just say that Chris Dodd is looking more like a true leader with each passing day. If you want to help Chris Dodd oppose telecom amnesty, click here for contact information on the members of the Judiciary Committee, then make the phone calls.
instead she is belching out lies at a house foreign affairs committee hearing: Rice: Mideast peace in jeopardy. So, what reason does that ass-licking piece of shit give for the problems in the "peace process?" W's incompetence? The rightwing nutballs here backing up the rightwing nutballs in Israel? Her fucking inability to install confidence in everyone she meets? No, Condi slithered to the hearing and "blamed Iran for fanning flames in the region, including what she called "troubling" new support for Hamas militants." Yep, this administration won't rest until they get the chance to bomb the shit our of Iran. And Condi is doing her part.
Protesters with fake blood covered hands interrupted Condi's litany of lies (click the link and look on the left hand column for the video); naturally, they were thrown out, while the liar Condoleeza Rice was permitted to stay. I hope that the protesters dog Condi's steps everywhere she goes, even when she is out of office. In a just world, Condi, W, Rumsfeld, Cheney....the whole fucking lot would be tried and convicted for war crimes. Still, you never know how justice may be served. Right now, there could be a young man or woman who has decided to become the Iraqi Simon Wiesenthal. Just saying.
Turkish planes bomb rebel positions. On the bright side, with US weapons manufacturers likely supplying both the Turks and the Kurds, it's going to be a fabulous Xmas for the shareholders and CEOs who own and control corporations that comprise the military industrial complex. Rolexes for everyone!
