I've said it before, but it bears repeating: Don't buy a fucking thing made in China.

Why? Well contemplate the scariness in this story: Chinese officials say that potentially deadly radioactive material lost in north-western Shaanxi province may have been found at a steel mill. Hey, you may be saying, no worries, the Chinese found the "lost" radioactive material. It's all good, yes? No. The missing radioactive material was "found" to have been sold to a steel mill. Now they are doing a clean-up operation at the mill. My guess? The radioactive stuff was smelted with the other scrap. So where is it now? And the workers...what will happen to them? It's all bad.

Libhomo: It isn't easy, but it isn't impossible. Food is now going to have to have the country of origin listed. The grocery stores near me already identify where the produce comes from. Most products have some country identification. But you are right, if China produced a component, we can't know unless and until manufacturers are required to identify all countries that contributed components. Still, I look and avoid the Made in China label. Surprisingly, some things are still made here. go figure. GMB
