I can't believe it's not a democracy!

Talk about your odd bedfellows:

Olson, Boies Unite to Fight Calif. Same-Sex Marriage Ban in Federal Court. Olson, as in "longtime conservative lawyer Theodore Olson." You know, the asshole who argued for Bush in Bush v. Gore. And you are right, David Boies argued the case for Gore. No, I can't figure it out either. Unless Ted realized that he's getting older and he wants to have something in his hip pocket when he meets St. Peter at the pearly gates. Or maybe he he has a gay kid? Because I read the article and Olson says the right things, and those are the only two theories that make any damn sense.

Oh, it's not what you think:

Reuters reports: A popular U.S. Roman Catholic priest photographed frolicking with a woman on a Florida beach announced on Thursday he had joined the Episcopal Church to pursue the priesthood in a faith that allows married clergy.

Get that? This priest, who is described as a "charismatic 40-year-old... well-known religious leader in Miami who dispensed relationship advice on Spanish-language television shows" was relieved of his duties when an entertainment magazine "published photos of him in swim trunks, snuggling and kissing a woman on the sands of a beach in Florida." Now that's a scandal--a Catholic priest frolicking with a consenting adult female. You know that couldn't stand.

And the former Catholic, soon-to-be Episcopalian, priest's name? Father Cutie. Not kidding. Oh, and he is.

One day you are on the top of the heap.

Your well-placed buddy gets you a plum job that you would never get under normal circumstances. You're banging some whore in a fabulous apartment that is yours to use for free (except it wasn't for you, whatever). Hell, your buddy names a city building--the Manhattan Detention Complex--after you.

But then things go horribly wrong: Former NYPD commissioner Kerik indicted.

And I haven't even mentioned Bernie's indictment for tax evasion, fraud and taking bribes.

Wow, it must suck to be him. Pity.

Because the republicans are raving douchebags and the democrats have no spine (or like things the way the are?), that's why:

Self-identified Independents surge in poll. Personally, I think many democrats are happy with the status quo and would rather see republicans win than have true progressives move to DC and ruin their party (in every sense of the word). Fuck 'em. We have more democrats, now we need better ones. And if that doesn't work, then maybe, finally, we can have a real progressive party? Yeah, I like to dream big.

It's May, the weather is finally getting really nice and we are looking at a long weekend.

Those are my excuses for not posting much this month.  And I will be posting even less for the next five days, because I am taking a couple of extra days off from work and having a really long, relaxing weekend.  Going down to south Jersey to see the family and friends.  My nephew told me that the strawberry patch my brother planted last year has exploded and the berries are turning bright red.  He tried a couple and said they are amazing.  I may have to find my favorite genoise recipe and make a lovely strawberry shortcake this weekend.

California Senate approves legislation designating Harvey Milk Day. And now the bill goes to the Assembly. Apparently an identical bill was passed last year, but Schwarzenegger vetoed it. Why would he change this year? I dunno. The GOP is cratering, the gays are pissed about Prop 8 and maybe he would like to leave the office on a good note rather than be remembered for being a complete douchebag. We shall see.

Hope the federal prosecutor brought a waterboard with him:

Rove questioned by federal prosecutor about his role in the firings of U.S. attorneys. A good first step, if followed by a second step. As usual, I am not holding my breath. Please Attorney General Holder, surprise me.
