Sarah Palin's "Planet Earth" and the End Times. Why read more on Sarah Palin? Because this article is by my friend Maud who had "a tongues-speaking, faith-healing, demon-battling storefront church childhood" courtesy of her sometime preaching mother. Having been raised in this world (but rejecting it) she is familiar with the coded language and the beliefs of the members of this world, which includes Sarah Palin. Says Maud: "If the media spent less time being entertained by Palin's antics, and more examining her connections, they'd find ample evidence of her fanaticism." As in that crazy end of times, Jesus is coming stuff.
So we can laugh at Sarah Palin for being a grifter or not to bright, but imagine a rapture ready Sarah Palin assuming the the responsibilities of president if John McCain had won and then became unable to fulfill the rest of his term. Not so funny anymore, is it?
It wasn't funny at the time.
There has never been any doubt i my mind that she was a rapture-ite. All you had to do was watch a clip or two from her church during her days as Mayor/Govenor of Alaska. She is as crazy and zealous about it as any evangelical gets. She is one, was likely raised one, and not many people took it very seriously. They should have.

She never was funny to me. I always mistrusted her religious leanings. I've lived around nuts like her since 1974 and I don't want them near the White House. That's why I worked so hard to defeat her in 2008.

Reamus: I agree. I was appalled that someone so incurious, so ill-equipped to lead was choosen. This religious crazy stuff just makes me angrier that someone like Palin is given one minute of air time.
Dr. Monkey: I assumed her religious stuff was pandering. Maud explained why I was making the wrong assumption. I was raised a catholic--that's the opposite of charismatic anything. I've said it before but I'll say it again: there is nothing sadder than a catholic congregation singing a hymn. Everything sounds like a dirge. GMB

GMB -
I might laugh at Palin-the-Grifter, Mooselini, the Wasilla Chillbillies, etc., but I've always taken her seriously. My wingnut fundie branch of the family (none of whom are undeducated, all have at least a BA) are transfixed by her. There is not a doubt in my mind that if she ever got her hands of the levers of power that she would immediatly declare whatever the Xristian Xrazy version of Sharia is called.

She's a goddam fucking monster. The people in Alaska who voted for her are dumb fuck assholes. Her supporters are sociopaths.

Ten: I don't have fundie relatives, just a few who lean hard right. I don't know what they think of her, but since I was raised catholic (as they were) I assume they aren't quite as taken. Hell, I never even heard of the rapture folks until about 10 years ago. Not big with catholics. And I agree about her wanting to impose her own law if she got any real power. God, I hope she just goes away.
JDM: I agree with everything you've said. GMB

Yeah, it was never funny to me. Sure, it's always a laugh to poke fun at her because she is such a hypocritical over-reaching moron, but the thought of her holding ANY office has always scared the living fuck out of me.
The fact that she's a hard-core "bring on the Rapture!" nitwit doesn't surprise me at all; the woman lacks the ability for logical, rational thought.

I still think she's funny. Somebody can be a comical dunce and still have reprehensible views.
Posted by: libhomo | March 23, 2010 at 10:48 PM
She's not funny, she scares the hell out of me...there are a lot of people who take her seriously, the media not included I might add, and she just might be omn one ticket or another. Frankly, I am tired of her act...it is very old and , no, not funny.
Posted by: Reamus | March 24, 2010 at 04:03 PM
dguzman: I agree. And the idea that women have to really fight to get on the top ticket and it was given to her disgusts me to no end. Makes me think that Alaska must be really fucked up. Hope that Rapture Ready grifter starts to fade from the limelight....but I know she won't. She loves the attention too fucking much.
libhomo: I agree. But she's dangerous because she wants to stir up her base and they are not very smart and armed.
Reamus: And I agree with you too. Plus, she's a distraction. Enough. Now that the dems got their "historic" health insurance (not Care) "reform" bill passed, I hope they focus real attention on financial industry reform. Naturally, I fear the worse. GMB

I think she is really only in it for the money and public service is not where the real money is.
Posted by: pat | April 04, 2010 at 10:13 PM
Pat: Me too. but Maud thinks that she is hedging her bets. That is, she thinks that Sarah really believes that she was chosen by god to lead this wingnut revolution. But just in case she's wrong, she'll have buckets of money. It's all good. Except, of course, it isn't. GMB
