91 victims and rising: Met police admits scale of phone hacking. The subhead reads "High court proposes four test case hearings as Sienna Miller offered £100,000 to settle." I'm guessing Miller doesn't need the money, so she is probably not exactly motivated to settle. And why should she? Her persistence (along with a handful of others) could very well kill this filthy "news" outlet and be the first salvo against the evil News Corp monster. I wish her well.
Have to add this bit, because it made me laugh my ass off: Michael Silverleaf QC, for News Group Newspapers, said the £100,000 the company had offered Miller was the maximum she could expect to win.
"She cannot realistically recover more than we are offering," he told the judge. "The civil litigation process does not exist for people to vent their feelings in public. It provides a remedy for wrongs. We have admitted the wrong and agreed to pay her the maximum sum."
Well, Michael, $100,000 times 3,000 = end of News of the World, don't you think? Actually, it equals $300,000,000, which has to hurt. Long and short, you can smell the flop sweat all the way over here. I wonder how many current and former News of the World journalists, editors and executives are chatting with their lawyer friends?
Bigger question: Do you think that the phone hacking was limited to News of the World? Because there is no limit on civil damages in the U.S. Just saying.
VERRRRRY INTERESTING!!!!

Reamus: This has the makings of righting a lot of wrongs. And Sienna Miller may have been a huge factor. Now there's a movie in the making. GMB

I'm sure you know this already, but this is the only place I've seen this topic addressed.

Lisa: Well, Yahoo had a story about this a few weeks ago on their home page, but yeah, not too many others are carrying it. I wonder why? Long and short, I have a My Yahoo! page and I don't have the NY Times as my news source. Rather, I have the Guardian, BBC, and Canadian news sources. I should add Al Jezeera (a friend swears by them).
This story just went from big to explosive. If you are interested in the background, check out The Guardian. Of course, I will keep posting about it. This story isn't going away. GMB

@Lisa
I have read about this story, in other places. Sienna is suing because she doesn't believe the excuses nor their timeline of hacking. She's suing to get full documentation of their hacking. She knows it wasn't just her, but everyone she spoke to and or left a message. None of this info would be released with taking the settlement. I guess one shouldn't pick on people who don't need to settle.
This is huge, it includes members of the Gov including the last Prime Minister. Rupert is in a bit of a rather large spot.

Pablo: I really do wonder if they did it here. The problem here, however, is with all this homeland security shit surely it must be a really big crime to hack politicians. They're special, after all.
I Dread: It's huge news...in the UK and other places. It's just not being reported much here in the U.S. Yet. But it will. GMB
