Gay marriage close to legal in Maryland. Didn't Washington state joined the list of enlightened places last week? Well, it looks like Maryland is next. Once the governor signs the bill, there will be eight states in this country that allow marriage between same-sex couples, and at least two states that allow for civil unions (Vermont and New Jersey...perhaps more? I've lost count, to be frank). So think about this when you hear about the next bullshit republican presidential debate. The rightwing is in the throes of a protracted death rattle. Meanwhile, eight plus states are showing us the way of the near future.
I did not think that gay marriage would be a reality during my lifetime. Wow.
I'm worried about a backlash from the Religious Right. You know, those "values" voters who gave Newt (Mr. Sanctity of Marriage....for everybody else) a victory in the South Carolina primary.

Antoniomo: I don't anticipate gay marriage even being raised in South Carolina. Some states are too ass backwards to advance. But in those states where decency can get a toehold, gay marriage is coming. My guess is that up to half the states will sanction gay marriage by 2025. It can happen. GMB

That does sound excellent, and possible.

I really think so, Antoniomo. I think that as this happens, people who live in the hate-filled parts of the country are going to have to think about how they want to live their lives. Alabama, et al., could see a good part of their open-minded presumably smarter class leave (I presume they are smarter than the bigots, and recent studies suggest that the stupid tend to be more racist, so...).
