Time Warner is now my former internet provider. I'm Verizon's bitch now. Got a 4G thing b/c Time Warner's outsourced customer service reps apparently didn't know we had a big fucking storm and had no answer re: when service would be back on. Hey, I wasn't looking to download porn, I was trying to get online to help out with work.
You see, my office is located across the street from the construction pit that is the former Ground Zero, the power around there was shut off to avoid electrical fires (caused by the flooding salt water), and no one knows when the power will be turned back on. Anyhow, Verizon is evil, but it's evil that works. I'm online again and will be helping out my co-workers who are doing three times the work because other co-workers have no internet, no phone, and no power (all in New Jersey, by the way).
I have to add that while I got through unscathed, across the street starts the no power zone in Dumbo. I assume the phone service is down too. And a friend who lives in the village has no power, phone, or internet, and we think her cell phone died out. Oi. No one knows when power will be restored to downtown Manhattan. Nor do they know when subways will be able to travel from Brooklyn to Manhattan. It's a big fucking mess.
Hope things are well wherever you are.
Glad to hear you're okay and you have power. Sorry things are such a mess. If you've been busy coping, at least you haven't had to listen to the unbelievable bullshit "fundraiser" Romney staged. I swear to god, that guy's voice seriously creeps me out.
Not much consolation, I know. I hope you've got what you need.

Thanks, Antoniomo. I know things are awful out there because a friend kept me informed. But because I couldn't see images or spend all day focusing on it, I was really calm and quiet and very relaxed. There's something to be said about being untied to the internet. Still, the bad thing happened--can't pretend it away. As for Romney, he becomes irrelevant beginning Nov. 7. GMB

Be well... and keep reporting the news!

I'm fine, Chris. Of course, I hate Verizon again too. Screwed up my phone. Oi. It will resolve. Compared to many people here and in NJ, I was really lucky--had power and phone the whole time. Only lost internet for three days. There are far worse things that could happen. Meanwhile, the old and the poor in downtown Manhattan--and yes, there are old people and poor people living there--have no power, no water, no phone, and no food. Many also have no money, even if they could get to a store. But I'm guessing the media aren't covering that, much. For more info, go to my friend Maud's twitter feed: @maudnewton. GMB
