I can't believe it's not a democracy!

Man, those republican politicians know how to cry on a dime:

South Carolina Governor Sanford admits extramarital affair.

A couple of things: 1) Unlike Spitzer, McGreevey, Vitter, et al., Sanford's wife was not by his side. I'm guessing that wasn't his choice. 2) He must have pissed off a lot of folks in South Carolina, because if he was liked--or truly powerful--we would never have heard about this "disappearance." 3) The tears flowed as he apologized to his family, friends and staff. Don't believe it. He was crying the tears of a man who knows his political career is dead. No Mr. President for you, Mr. Can't Keep His Dick in His Pants. 4) No surprise: Fox News identified Sanford as a democrat (put a D next to his name). They've done this too often for it to be a mistake. I would be angry if maligning the democrats was something worth getting angry about. But it isn't. Not these democrats.

I didn't go with the obvious headline--Don't Cry for Me Argentina--but the lyrics to that song are bound to be worked over to reflect Sanford's fall from grace. I expect competing versions by midnight.

The headline reads:

Bush returns to state he loves. Hmm, state he loves. I'm going to go with catatonic.

Oh my god...I think Sarah Palin called this one right:

Palin believes Caroline Kennedy is getting a pass from the media because of her social class. Obviously Sarah Palin was an easy target, but that was her own doing. No way around it, her lifestyle and mothering skills left a lot to be desired. That said, I think the mainstream media whores see themselves as part of the ruling elite and I don't doubt that they feel more comfortable dealing with a Kennedy than a Palin (certainly would name drop the former, not the later). Hell, the DC media whores were in a tizzy over Bill Clinton, an Ivy educated Rhodes Scholar, because they thought he was a hillbilly. That said, Palin's comments about Katie Couric and Tina Fey are just attempts to rationalize her poor performance (though she does get in a nice little dig at Couric). One thing is for sure, Sarah Palin wants more than her 15 minutes and, sadly, it looks like she is going to get it.

The new administration catches a lucky break:

Richardson withdraws bid to be commerce secretary. Because if this story broke after Richardson was approved and poised to move to DC, the main stream media would bring him up every other fucking minute (not that they won't try now).

I must add that I was never a fan of Richardson's. He sucked at the debates (he imploded during the "gay debate") and there were rumors that he was a bit too touchy feely around women. In fact, I never understood how he got where he did or why people thought he was so fabulous. Well, it looks like we won't have to worry about seeing him around for a long while (if ever).

Threatened with impeachement, the president resigns....

President Pervez Musharraf, that is. Because the Pakistani Nancy Pelosi did not take impeachment off the fucking table. That's why.

One pompous gasbag down, too many to name to go:

William F. Buckley Jr. dies at 82. Click the link if you want to see the AP give Buckley's shriveled corpse a tongue bath.

How can we tell?

Fred Thompson quits presidential race. He gave up a steady pay check from Law & Order for a half-hearted, half-assed run for the republican nomination. Hope the wife is happy (heard she wanted him to run), because Fred is going to have a lot of time on his hands and little to distract him. Yes, I want to throw up a little now. Thanks to Mr. Slice for the head's up.

Is the tide finally turning?

Time magazine drops Kristol, Krauthammer. Yes, Newsweek has hired Karl Rove as the conservative voice for its rag, but Time dropping Kristol and Krauthammer is pretty significant. Or at least it will be if they don't replace those assholes with, say, Jonah douchebag Goldberg and Ann fucking Coulter.

I believe that the first signs of real change (iin our favor, for a change) will be when the corporate owned media outlets start kicking the rightwing scumbags to the curb. This story, coupled with rumors that Tucker Carlson will soon be unemployed, are hopeful signs. But when the powers that be at CNN finally gets their heads out of their asses and fire that piece of shit Glenn Beck, then we will know that we have a real change coming.

Finally, a happy ending:

Conrad Black sentenced to between 6.5 and 8 years in prison. Hey, anybody know whether he can keep his title of Lord while he's in prison?

And here's something for your WTF? file: More than 100 acquaintances and family members wrote to the court to urge leniency for Black, including former Telegraph editors Charles Moore and Dominic Lawson, the shadow foreign secretary William Hague, former Canadian prime minister Brian Mulroney, the singer Elton John and Monsignor Fred Dolan, head of the Canadian chapter of Opus Dei.

I wonder if Father Dolan gave him a cilice as a going away gift?

Update: Judge gave Black the lightest sentence available: Conrad Black gets 6 1/2 years in prison. Odd that the judge went easy on him, given that he refused to apologize for his actions, but still 6 1/2 years is real time.

Oh Larry, we can do the math:

Idaho Statesman Report: 8 men claim they had sexual encounters with Sen. Craig. Add these eight men to the hundreds who are probably too embarassed to admit that they schtupped Craig, and you're talking some big numbers. Bye-bye Larry...you may want to grab Trent's hand on the way out the door.
